Chicago Craft Mafia's First Annual:
Do It Your Own D*mn Self Show
The Chicago Craft Mafia loves the
DIY philosophy and now they're making it even easier for crafters with their
"Do It Your Own D*mn Self" show where local crafters will be selling
their stash of unwanted craft supplies at affordable prices.
The Chicago Craft Mafia and about
30 other local crafters will be setting up their craft supplies at Pulaski Park
(1419 W. Blackhawk, near Milwaukee/Ashland/Division intersection) on March 28th
from 12-4pm.
"I have so many things that
I've bought with the intention of revolutionizing the craft world, but once
I made a few things, the rest of my supplies have sat untouched," said
Tammy Terwelp of Smashing Cars Creations. "And I know I'm not the only
one who has boxes of unwanted supplies so we thought it would be a great idea
to offer our leftover supplies for cheap to people who will actually use them."
This inaugural show is inspired by
the number of local artisans that the Chicago Craft Mafia has seen who have
changed their focus over the last 5 years. People who started out making jewelry
are now making purses and soaps and other people who started out painting are
now making plush toys. It's likely that all those makers have supplies sitting
abandoned in drawers or in a closet.
"This is the era of reduce,
reuse, recycle, repair," said Brandy Agerbeck of Loosetooth.com. "We
thought this show would keep craft supplies from getting trashed while making
them available to people who are interested in starting new projects but who
would rather not buy new supplies and plunk down lots of cash. This show will
help both sides of the crafting market."
There won't be any finished items
for sale, but there will be lots of supplies so people can make their own finished
projects and possibly get a few tips on what to do, or just as importantly,
what not to do when trying out a new craft.
